Language, Literacy and Numeracy skills are generally included and identified in Training Products and accredited course programs. In identifying language, literacy and numeracy requirements, students are required to have demonstrate the following:

Language/Literacy in the Workplace:

A moderate level of English understanding is required to enrol into the LF or LO course. As a HRW licence holder, you will need to be able to communicate verbally, in English, with co-workers, supervisors, managers, truck drivers and customers.

You will also need to have the language skills to read and understand the following:

LLN Procedure

  • Prior to taking payment, we send a link to an online LLN quiz (jotform/google forms) that will help us determine whether a student is or isn’t eligible to enrol or requires assistance (verbal test, AMES etc.)
  • Once we have received a successful LLN response, the payment and enrolment process will begin. If a student is unsuccessful and requires assistance or additional support, we suggest AMES (English classes) to be attended before booking a course.
  • If a student passes the LLN successfully but still has concerns with writing, we can offer a verbal assessment at no additional charge.
  • If after a successful LLN result and the student is found to be having difficulty with LLN during the course, additional time will be organised to study before attempting the National Assessment. A full refund will be offered if it is determined that their LLN skills are very poor.
  • Admin will organise course confirmation, enrolment and payment once LLN has been deemed successful.

  • Convenient forklift training courses in Hoppers Crossing, close to Melbourne.

The western suburbs are thriving with new housing and industrial estates. We’re located smack bang in the middle of it all! Easy to find, just off the Princes Freeway.

Public transport is no issue either with Williams Landing and Hoppers Crossing train stations close-by. Our trainers and staff have worked in the warehousing industry as forklift operators, safety representatives, and storemen before they were trainers. This means they understand what actually happens in the workplace and what is expected of you when you’re working as a forklift operator.

We believe this is what sets us apart from competitors who have trainers that have not worked in the industry before. It’s important to be trained correctly and to the standard, but it’s, more important to have training that reflects what is happening in the industry today. To back this up is our positive feedback from students that mention the knowledge and guidance from our trainers are of a very high standard.

  • We train you to become job-ready

Having a forklift licence is all good, but it’s only the beginning. To put it into practice in the workplace and to operate safely and competently after you’ve gained a forklift licence is another thing altogether. With the years of experience that our trainers have had actually worked in the industry as forklift operators, they know what you’ll be heading into when you get out there in the workplace.

We don’t just train you to get your licence; we’ll get you ready for a job as a forklift operator as well. Our trainers will be able to answer your questions about forklift operating in the workplace and help you to understand the challenges you may face when working.

  • Vibrant and positive learning space

Trainix is a vibrant place, where it’s not uncommon to have multiple courses running at the same time in 1 of our 3 classrooms. We provide coffee, tea, biscuits, filtered water, fridge, and microwaves on-site so you can bring a lunch with you.

From the moment you first step into the reception area, decorated with handmade up-cycled furniture built from old pallets to the large warehouse space where the forklifts, order pickers, boom and scissor lifts all operate, we have made a huge effort for the whole place to be a positive, professional, clean, modern and friendly environment. It’s important to us that our students are comfortable when learning because we believe that’s the right way to get the best results.

No one wants to be part of a course where they are made to feel stressed. We feel that this part of why so many of our students keep coming back for different training courses!

  • Skills and Knowledge – to hit the ground running

Whether you have never seen a forklift before or you have spent years in warehousing and just never got a forklift licence, we have designed our forklift course to suit any level of experience. With the right forklift training and forklift licence, you will be ready to find work in the industry.

There are certainly no guarantees in finding work, but we will make sure to provide you with the skills and knowledge needed to hit the ground running.
If you’re already working and are getting licensed to upgrade your current position at work, we will work with you to make the training as relatable to the tasks that you’ll be performing at your workplace. If you spend more time loading trucks, we can focus on that. If you constantly have to travel in reverse because of the loads you carry, we’ll work with you to do that as safely as possible. Whatever it is you need to learn for work, we’ll do what we can to as realistic as possible.

Forklift Course & Licence FAQs

The forklift course runs for 2-days. The first day is a mixture of theory classroom based learning and practical forklift training. The second day is when all the assessments are conducted. Prior to attending the course, there will be study material to learn at home also. This helps get prepared for the theory sessions and gives students the best chance of passing the assessments.

The forklift course starts at 8:30am each day and runs until approximately 4pm. The finish times can vary if the group size is smaller or if there are some experienced operators in the group.

You will need to bring one form of valid photo ID. Your photo ID must be any of the following and cannot be expired:

Australian Driver’s Licence/Learners Permit

Passport (Australian passport can be expired by 2 years but international passports must be in date)

Proof of Age Card

KeyPass

Australian Boat Licence

Australian Security Licence

Australian High Risk Work Licence

University or other tertiary education photo ID

This ID must be presented in person and can’t be a photocopy. Digital issued licences are acceptable but will need to be sited by the trainer.

You will also need to bring your completed ‘workbook’ and wear appropriate clothing. Safety boots are not required but you will at least need to wear closed toe shoes (runners, sneakers etc.). It’s a good idea to dress for the weather as our warehouse can be cold or hot, depending on the season but all of our classrooms are fitted with heating/cooling for your comfort.

Upon booking your forklift course with Trainix, we will email you 2 x PDF documents for each course. One file is the ‘Study Guide, and the other is the ‘Workbook’. Prior to commencing your forklift course, you will need to print and complete the ‘Workbook’. Not only is this a requirement, but it has proven to help students get good results in the assessments. The more you can learn prior to starting, the better chance of passing. If you can’t print the documents, we can post them to you at no charge or you can pick up physical copies from our office during work hours.

For sure! Our forklift course has been designed for beginners through to experienced operators. We find that most people can learn to operate a forklift safely within the time allocated, even with no prior experience. Our trainers have had many years of experience in operating and training so they will do all they can to be able to assist with your learning, should you have any trouble during the course.

Definitely! Operating a forklift is probably the most important part of the course and our trainers will spend lots of time with you to ensure you are operating competently and safely. We have gas and electric counterbalance forklifts available to operate. Each trainer conducts a practical demonstration at the start of the course to show you our expectations of safe forklift operation. During your practical training, the trainers will be out there with you the whole way, offering tips and advice on how to perform safely. If for some reason, you’re not able to become competent in the allocated time, we can arrange additional time if needed.

Like most workplaces, we will have multiple breaks during the day (morning/lunch/afternoon). Due to the nature of the practical training, there will also be some downtime which means you can use that time however you wish. We have free coffee/tea available and there is a vending machine on-site. There are also multiple cafes in the area. Just ask your trainer and they will be able to point you in the right direction.

Upon successful completion of the forklift course, you will receive an email from WorkSafe with your Notice of Assessment (this is also your temporary licence) and instructions on how to apply for your forklift licence. This email should get to you within 72 hours of completing the course. You will need to apply for your licence either online or at a Post Office within 60 days of successful course completion. Failure to do so will mean your licence will expire and you’ll have to attend another 2-day course at full costs. You can operate a forklift with your temporary forklift licence (Notice of Assessment) while waiting for your actual forklift licence to be processed. WorkSafe will charge a fee to process your forklift licence. This fee is determined by WorkSafe so check the cost at the time of your course, as it is subject to change. Please check here for more information on the licence application and fees: https://www.worksafe.vic.gov.au/high-risk-work-licence

Once you have finalised your forklift licence application and it has been issued, it is valid for 5 years. You will receive notifications from WorkSafe leading up to your expiry date with instructions on how to renew your forklift licence. You won’t need to complete another course to renew it, but you will need to ensure you’re staying competent in forklift operation. The cost of licence renewal will be determined by WorkSafe at the time. Please check with them on the fees involved as it is subject to change. You can check here: https://www.worksafe.vic.gov.au/high-risk-work-licence

If you’re unsuccessful in passing your forklift course, we offer one free re-test for any part of the test that you were deemed ‘not yet competent’ (either theory/calculations/practical). We will ensure that any additional training required will be conducted also. We will discuss options with you if you need to be re-assessed.

We run multiple forklift courses each week. While we can be busy at certain times of the year, we can usually get you into a course within a week or two. We also offer Friday – Saturday courses most weeks, which can be helpful if you’re working during the week.

You can book a course by either calling us on (03) 9369 8823 during work hours (8am – 4pm weekdays), emailing us at info@trainix.com.au or completing a booking enquiry form here: https://trainix.com.au/enquire-now/

We limit our forklift courses to 6 people maximum. This means everyone gets plenty of time to learn how to operate a forklift.

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have valid photo ID (not expired)
  • Have a USI (Unique Student Identifier – http://usi.gov.au)
  • Be able to read, write and understand English at Certificate Level 2

While it’s not a requirement, it is highly recommended that you have some type of vehicle/car driving experience as it can be difficult to learn how to operate a forklift without already having basic driving skills.
