TLILIC0004 LICENCE TO OPERATE AN ORDER PICKING FORKLIFT TRUCK (Release 1)

order picker licence (LO Forklift)

LO Licence - Nationally recognised training at Trainix

An LO licence is also commonly known as an ‘order picker licence’, ‘stock picker licence’ or ‘LO forklift licence’. This licence is different from a ‘regular’ forklift licence (LF licence) and is a separate course.

Order picking forklifts are used in warehouse environments within high-level racking. The LO forklift operator raises and lowers a platform to pick and pack orders at high levels.

Trainix is a specialised LO licence training company located close to Melbourne in the Western Suburbs at Hoppers Crossing. We’re 100% committed to offering you the very best, most-up-to-date LO forklift courses in the industry.

If you’re looking to gain an LF licence (forklift licence) & LO licence (order picker licence), Trainix offers a 4-day ‘Combo Course’.

Up-Skill and Save When Combining LF & LO!

is an lo licence right for you?

If you’re thinking about getting an LO licence, now is the time!

Because many warehouses are now designed with order pickers in mind, they tend to have high level racking systems to maximise the amount of stock that can be stored in the facility. This means that operators of order pickers will travel around the rack aisles while raising up and down on a platform to pick orders and put away stock.

Despite being similar to a forklift licence, a different licence (LO licence) is required due to the platform raising with the operator inside. Safety equipment such as an approved harness and lanyard must be worn at all times to ensure the operator’s safety.

Having a licence for an LO forklift also gives you the ability to operate a Turret Truck which is used in
very narrow aisles to retrieve and replenish pallets. On the job training is required to understand how to operate this machine but gaining the LO licence means you can legally operate the equipment.

Our 2-day LO licence course is suitable for beginners or experienced operators. Our experienced LO forklift trainers have had many years operating an order picker in warehousing and will help you to gain the skills to become job ready!

Other Course We offer at Trainix:

We also offer premium services such as forklift licence courses, LO forklift refresher courses and onsite forklift training (LO and LF).

Not only do we train you to be able to pass the LO forklift assessments, but we ensure you leave our training facility with a wealth of knowledge about being an order picker licence holder and are ready to advance your career in warehousing.

You can guarantee that when you enrol into one of our LO licence courses you not only are learning from the some of the most experienced trainers around, but you will also receive amazing support and customer service.

  • Once we have received a successful LLN response, the student can proceed with the course. If a student is unsuccessful and requires assistance or additional support, we suggest AMES (English classes) to be attended before booking a course.
  • If a student passes the LLN successfully but still has concerns with writing, we can offer a verbal assessment at no additional charge.
  • If after a successful LLN result but the student is found to be having difficulty during the course, additional time will be organised for study before attempting the National Assessment.

ORDER PICKER COURSE & LO LICENCE FAQS

The LO licence course goes for 2-days and consists of theory/practical training and assessments. We also provide study material to learn before the course which helps to prepare you for the assessments.

It’s a requirement to complete the ‘workbook’ before you course starts but it also helps students to learn all the information to pass the LO assessments.

Each day starts at 8:30am and finishes around 4 pm (approximately, depending on group size and experience)

You will need to bring one form of valid photo ID. Your photo ID must be any of the following and cannot be expired:

  • Australian Driver’s Licence/Learners Permit
  • Passport (Australian passport can be expired by 2 years but international passports must be in date)
  • Proof of Age Card
  • KeyPass
  • Australian Boat Licence
  • Australian Security Licence
  • Australian High Risk Work Licence
  • University or other tertiary education photo ID

This ID must be presented in person and can’t be a photocopy. Digital issued licences are acceptable but will need to be sited by the trainer.

You will also need to bring your completed ‘workbook’ and wear appropriate clothing. Safety boots are not required but you will at least need to wear closed toe shoes (runners, sneakers etc.).

It’s a good idea to dress for the weather as our warehouse can be cold or hot, depending on the season but all of our classrooms are fitted with heating/cooling for your comfort.

Once you have made a booking with us, we will email you the ‘Study Guide’ and ‘Workbook’ as attached PDF documents.

It is a requirement to complete the ‘workbook’ prior to the course and bring it with you, but we also find that when students complete the study material, they are more likely to pass the assessments.

Spending some time to learn this at home will only help and makes the course much easier to complete.

You don’t need to have had any experience to enrol into our LO course. We have designed the course to be suitable for beginners to experienced operators and anything in between.

With smaller class sizes, we can offer lots of practical training to ensure you are operating safely and competently.

Definitely! The practical training is a very important aspect of the course, and we will make sure you get plenty of time to learn and gain the skills to operate an order picker.

If for some reason you’re having difficulty with the practical aspect, we will endeavour to work with you and try our best to fix any issues. Our trainers have had years of experience and have developed great techniques to help with any practical concerns.

Due to WorkSafe’s regulations, the assessment must be conducted in English and without the use of a translator. If you are able to read and understand English to at least a Certificate Level 2 but are concerned with writing, then we can offer a ‘verbal’ assessment at no extra charge.

This means you will sit down with your trainer/assessor and you will verbally answer the test questions, rather than write them down. You will still be required to understand the information enough to explain your answers to the trainer/assessor so they can write it down.

Provided you can read and learn the material, then a verbal assessment could help. A verbal assessment needs to be conducted at a separate time from the rest of the group’s assessments so you will need to discuss a suitable time with your trainer.

Please advise us in advance if you have any concerns so we can plan for it and try our best to assist.

There is no extra charge to conduct a verbal theory assessment. We will just need to arrange a time that is suitable as it can’t be conducted along with the rest of the group.

Please note, only the theory assessment can be conducted verbally. The calculations must be written.

We have free coffee/tea available onsite along with a vending machine, microwave, sandwich press and fridges.

There are plenty of cafes in the area, just ask any staff member and we can point you in the right direction.

There are multiple breaks during the day, and you will be able to have lunch, get a coffee etc. During the practical training, there will be some downtime while we give every student the time to operate the equipment so you can utilise that time as you wish.

Multiple cafes are located in the area if you need to buy lunch. Just ask your trainer and they can give you directions.

We also have free coffee/tea onsite along with a vending machine, microwave, fridge and sandwich press available.

Once you have passed all the assessments, you will receive an email from WorkSafe with your Notice of Assessment (temporary licence) and information on how to apply for your LO licence.

This email should get to you within 72 hours of course completion. You will need to apply for your LO licence within 60 days or your licence will expire, and you will need to sit the course again at your own cost.

You can either apply online or at an Australia Post branch. There will be a fee payable to WorkSafe to process your licence. Please check the licensing cost at the time of your course as it is subject to change.

You can find more information about the LO licence application and fees on WorkSafe Victoria’s website.

Please note that Trainix do not have any control over the licensing process.

Once you have your LO licence issued, it is valid for 5 years. You will receive notifications from WorkSafe when it is getting close to expiring.

You will need to renew it either online or at a Post Office. You won’t need to complete another course, but you need to make sure you are staying up to date and competent in LO operation at the time of renewal.

WorkSafe charge a fee to renew your licence and as it is subject to change, you can find that information and other info regarding the LO licence renewal on WorkSafe Victoria’s website.

The LO licence covers the operation of an ‘order picking forklift truck’ which is more commonly known as a ‘stock picker’ or ‘order picker’.

The operator stands on a platform that can raise up in high level racking/shelving to pick stock and fulfill orders. It’s pretty much ‘pick & pack’ but going up high to pick the stock. Due to the platform raising, the operator needs to wear a safety harness attached to a lanyard to ensure their safety at heights.

The LO licence also covers a ‘turret truck’ which is used in very narrow aisles to move pallets in and out where a forklift cannot fit. The platform on a turret also raises up which is why it’s covered by the LO licence.

An LF licence covers nearly any type of forklift, even a high reach. The LF class is based on the design of the forklift being that the operator sits or stands at ground level and a vertical mast raises up with fork-arms or other attachments. If the operator doesn’t go up in a platform and it has a vertical mast, it’s covered by LF.

There is no limit on size or capacity either.  If it’s considered a ‘forklift’ by design, it’s covered by the LF licence.

Please get in touch if you’re still unsure which licence you need so we can help you book the correct course.

If you’re deemed ‘Not Yet Competent’ in any part of the assessment (theory/calculations/practical), we offer one free retest to try again.

We will also help you to gain more training for any aspects that need improving. We will discuss your options for a retest, should you need it. Any retests after the free option will incur costs deepening on what section needs to be assessed again.

We run multiple LO courses weekly. Most of the time, we are booked out 1-2 weeks in advance but there is always a course available.

We also offer Friday – Saturday courses occasionally so that can help if you’re working during the week.

You can book an order picker licence course by one of the following:

  • Going to our ‘Book Now’ page
  • by calling us on (03) 93698823 during work hours (8am – 4pm weekdays) or;
  • sending an email to info@trainix.com.au.

We have between 4-6 people in an LO course. 6 people being the maximum we would have.

This allows for plenty of practical training and gives students the time they need to learn comfortably.
